Rangers take on Kilmarnock this weekend as the league season starts and hopefully we’ll be able to kick off the campaign in fine style.

The Gers have had an impressive pre-season on and off the field and though we have been playing in Europe this is where the real work starts.

Killie will be up for causing us problems, too, as they so often were last season and so we’ll have to rise to the challenge and get ourselves the three points.

In the meantime, though, one of our youngsters out on loan has already been featuring for Ayr this season and scored a lovely free-kick recently.

Stephen Kelly’s revealed why he left this summer on loan, too, after seeing that Steven Gerrard didn’t plan on playing him often enough this season.

Quoted by the Herald, he said:

“If he wanted to keep me here, he could have. But that wasn’t going to benefit my development and I wouldn’t have improved enough by this time next year because I wouldn’t have been getting the games.

“If I can go and get 25, 30, 40 games, that is going to make me better.”

A lot of our youngsters have left on loan this season with the likes of Ross McCrorie and Nicky Hogarth among that list.

Hopefully, then, it’ll stand them in good stead for the future.
