Nico Raskin has already made a very encouraging impression in his early days for Rangers, that could be enhanced much further against Celtic tomorrow.

The Viaplay Cup final represents an instant opportunity for success and silverware for Raskin as well as Todd Cantwell, just a few months into the positive reign of Michael Beale who has steered the squad in a much better direction since his return to the club.

For the Belgian, his combative qualities have been well received. He looks a very good fit at Ibrox and next up is the big one. The yardstick that players are measured against.

He declared himself as ready and willing to embrace the Old Firm showdown, following the win at Livingston last week:

“Of course I feel ready. I think the boys are coming back for the cup final but yeah I’m ready.”

“I like to play in big games like that. I like to play with pressure. I’m very excited about that game. Oh I think just give me one month and I’ll be totally fit physically.”

Having just arrived from Standard Liege in January, his enthusiasm and application has been a welcome lift. Raskin looks like a player of quality who can make a real impact for Beale. He appears ready for what lies ahead:

“I’m very excited to play against Celtic in this cup final because in football you only remember trophies. I’m here to win trophies so I can’t wait.”

“I’ve spoken to the guys and they all say it’s going to be crazy, something I’ve never seen before. So I’m really excited to see this atmosphere and see what it’s like to play in it.”

With the recent injury to John Lundstram, the timing of Raskin’s breakthrough has also been a relief. Most importantly, the Belgian U21 international appears equipped with the skillset to make a difference in the middle of the park for Rangers.

As it seems, the 21-year old will take his place in the starting line-up at Hampden on Sunday afternoon, what an opportunity to truly announce his arrival with a statement of intent, when it matters.
