Rangers are through to the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup after beating Cowdenbeath 3-1 on Wednesday night, but for some supporters the performance was not quite good enough.

Steven Gerrard’s side were far below their best in the fixture, especially in the second half, with some now worried about the team’s ability to play consistently away from home.

One of the players who came under particular criticism was full-back Jon Flanagan, who conceded the penalty that led to the Fife side pulling a goal back after the interval.

Signed by Gerrard last summer, he has failed to impress supporters for the most part, with many now questioning his role as a back-up.

The signing of Matt Polster should see him fall further down the pecking order and for plenty of fans, that’s just fine.

The manager called for fringe players to perform better when given the opportunity and it seems Flanagan is one of those who has to improve rapidly to guarantee his long-term Ibrox future.

These supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his Wednesday display…
