After a slow start, Rangers recruitment was wrapped up pretty early, and a flurry of activity saw Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo, Ben Davies and Ridvan Yilmaz arrive to bolster the squad.

There aren’t any obvious holes in the squad other than a couple of positions where it would be nice to see some new faces, however, after qualifying for the Champions League, there could well be a loosening of the purse strings.

Former Gers gaffer, Alex McLeish, speaking to Football Insider, believes that Ross Wilson could have a trick up his sleeve in the closing days of the window:

“It’s possible.

“I have a feeling that they have their squad now and they are going to go with that. You never know, there could be a surprise around the corner.

“But, by and large, they are covered in most of the positions now. They have made some great additions this summer.

“The confidence you get from something like that [beating PSV], is magnificent and enormous. It will reinforce the players’ beliefs tenfold.”

McLeish is right, if we don’t sign anyone else it won’t be the end of the world, after all, we still have several international players to come back from injury who will add depth to the squad.

What Champions League football does though is create an opportunity that has to be seized, we have a window in which we might be able to attract players who maybe wouldn’t normally come to Scotland but the chance to mix it with Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli will be a pretty strong pull for some.

To compete with teams like these putting square pegs into round holes isn’t ideal either so we might see players arrive who can offer something different to what we already have – either way, I’d be surprised if there isn’t a bit of movement in both directions over the coming days.
