Rangers look to have won the race for teen prodigy Zak Lovelace’s signature with a new report claiming that the striker has confirmed he is heading to Glasgow.

He might not be ready to make an immediate impact in the first-team, however, having played senior football at just 15-years old, it’s safe to say that he has immense potential and persuading him to come to Ibrox is a massive coup.

A report in Football Insider has claimed that Rangers saw off Premier League sides to get the deal done with it being only a matter of time before an announcement is made:

“Rangers have reached a full agreement with Millwall striker Zak Lovelace and he is set to sign next week, Football Insider understands.

“The 16-year-old has accepted a contract offer from the Europa League finalists ahead of rival interest from Premier League clubs.

“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that there is a full agreement in place and LovelaceĀ is believed to have told friends he is headed to the Glasgow giants for a medical and to complete the move.”

Most people will probably expect Lovelace to join up with the B team squad but Leon King wasn’t much older when he joined the first-team and if he was trusted to be part of a Championship squad in England, one of the most physically demanding leagues going, then there is no reason that he shouldn’t be under Roy Makaay’s watchful gaze.

At his age though he has to be playing games and teaching him the “Rangers way” is key to his adjustment and settling into life at Auchenhowie, even if it is a short apprenticeship in the B team it will do him the world of good before making the step up – it might not be a big name, but this signing is equally as exciting as any we will make this summer.
