Rangers Women will play their home games at Broadwood Stadium in the upcoming 2022/23 season.

The change was confirmed today in a move designed to increase exposure for the women’s game, to allow more fans to attend as well as opening up commercial opportunities.

Up until now, the team managed by Malky Thomson have been based at Auchenhowie within the Rangers Training Centre but the main pitch at the club’s base is not deemed suitable to host Champions League fixtures. Another crucial factor in the move.

As part of the move, a season ticket has been launched in a similar venture that was already confirmed for the B team.

Whilst the increased opportunity to watch the women’s team, particularly for young girls, is undoubtedly a very good thing, the awarding of 15 MyGers points for the season ticket is another stretch for the club’s membership scheme with those with the greatest means able to get along at the expense of those who are challenged financially in these tough times, regardless of their actual loyalty to the club and the relative sacrifices that they make.

Meanwhile, the move to Broadwood sees the Women’s team effectively ‘share’ a home with mens Lowland League sides Cumbernauld Colts and Broomhill, who are now of course officially in partnership with the Open Goal podcast.

Amy McDonald, Rangers Head of Women’s and Girl’s football said of the new venture:

“We hope this will be an exciting move for our women’s first-team as we relocate our home games to Broadwood Stadium.”

“We look forward to working with North Lanarkshire Council in this partnership and hope this move will give us the opportunity to provide a more enjoyable matchday experience for supporters and encourage many more to come and support the women’s game.”
