Rangers have now confirmed that winger Michael O’Halloran has headed to Australia and signed a new deal with Melbourne City.

Having moved to Rangers in the winter transfer window back in 2016 for a reported £500,000 from St Johnstone, the 27-year-old departs with a total of 20 starting appearances to his name, with a further 18 showings from the substitutes bench. In his time with us he scored three times.

Last season he was loan back to St Johnstone for the first half of the year, where he scored five goals in a total of 17 appearances.

The confirmation by Rangers says the fee is undisclosed, but you’d hope we at least broke even on the transfer, despite his out of favour status at the club. He has apparently signed a two year deal with the A-League outfit.

Under normal circumstances, I’d probably post up a few Twitter responses with fans giving their general opinion of the player and maybe picking out a highlight or two from his time with the club, but I probably don’t have to explain why that wouldn’t be wise in this case – you’ll certainly understand my reticence to do so if you’ve seen the response to this announcement on the club’s own Twitter feed.
