Rangers will have to compete with English Premier League side Burnley in order to land Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones, as reported by website TEAMtalk.

Jones has long been a target for the Gers, having a bid rejected by Killie for the player in the last January transfer window.

TEAMtalk reckon that Steven Gerrard and his recruitment team remain interested in signing the Northern Ireland international, but now face strong competition from Burnley who will be ready to move for him next month rather than wait until the end of the season.

Given the resources available to Burnley, that’s a real problem for Rangers.

Rated as worth £675,000 by Transfermarkt, Jones’ current deal at Rugby Park expires at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old’s attacking output this term isn’t as strong as last season’s haul of four goals and ten assists, but he has provided Killie with four assists in his last nine league matches, helping them challenge towards the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Now winning caps for his country too, a budget move for the winger certainly appears to make sense, especially with English Premier League clubs interested in bringing him back south of the border.

If Rangers truly want him, it looks like they’ll have to make their move early in the January window.
