Rangers wide-man Glenn Middleton has opened the door on extending his stay at St Johnstone beyond the end of this season.

The loan Ranger has had a productive spell with Callum Davidson’s Saints and he appears to be enjoying the experience.

Having only featured once for Steven Gerrard’s team this season – in a makeshift left-wing back role against Falkirk in the League Cup it will be a surprise if his days at Ibrox are not numbered.

Despite a very decent breakthrough season in 2018-19 when Middleton featured and scored in the Europa League group stages, he just hasn’t kicked on and developed, as expected.

The Glasgow Times reported on his outlook ahead of the near future:

“I can’t look too far ahead. For me just now, it’s about trying to play in every game for St Johnstone and making a positive impact.”

“I am under contract at Rangers and that means they are in control of the situation moving forward.”

“I’ve no idea what the summer holds for me in terms of going into next season.”

“But if there is an opportunity to come back to Saints then I’d seriously look at it because I have really enjoyed my time here.”

“It’s a great football club and the people in every department are top class. There is a great deal of belief in this squad. We are desperate to win every game.”

“The squad made me feel welcome from the first moment I walked into the dressing-room.”

The 21-year old is contracted at Ibrox for another two seasons but that situation could be taken out of his hands in the close season.

In his time so far at McDiarmid Park, he has made seven appearances, scoring one goal.
