It feels like a long time since Rangers won the league, and a long time since Connor Goldson was first rumoured to have signed a contract extension.

The Gers vice-captain is said to be in no hurry to leave and the club is confident that a deal can be reached, however, this doesn’t make the situation any less frustrating for Rangers fans.

What doesn’t help is when Premier League clubs are linked with the 28-year old and, this time, it is West Ham United who are said to be planning a January move for the centre-half according to Football Insider:

“A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club are monitoring Goldson’s contract situation and could look to make a move in the new year.

“As revealed by Football Insider, Rangers rejected late-window interest in Goldson.

“Ibrox chiefs wanted the central defender to put pen to paper before the window shut last month but a new contract has yet to be agreed.

“The Glasgow giants made it clear to Goldson and his representatives that they would not entertain any offers, even the ones that came in late.”

For all that Goldson appears to be happy at the club and Steven Gerrard is clearly a huge admirer, the opportunity to return to the Premier League for a settled, well-established side, could be a tempting one, there is also the fact that, despite being on a decent wage at Rangers, West Ham would be able to offer significantly more.

Obviously negotiations are carried out in private but it’s getting to the stage where Goldson has to be careful, if he is anything less than perfect in games he will come under criticism, being hit with the lazy trope that his contract status is affecting his concentration.

We’re not stupid, Rangers fans know that we need to sell players, it would just be annoying if one of our key players – in his peak years – decides to leave without us getting a true reflection of his value.
