Rangers flop signing Eduardo Herrera has joined Mexican outfit Necaxa on a loan basis.

Herrera was one of the much heralded summer signings when Pedro Caixinha arrived at the club in 2017, but failed to make an impression in the first-team, starting just two matches before being shipped off on loan to Santos Laguna.

He cost the club a reported £1.5m and alongside compatriot Carlos Pena continues to be a potential drain on the finances of Rangers for the next 18 months, with the duos’ contracts not due to expire until the summer of 2020.

Incredibly, the pair earn a combined £50,000-a-week according to The Scottish Sun, so the fact Herrard will not be returning to Glasgow during January should be seen as a major positive.

Now he has found a new loan club, the club are on their way to shedding the majority of that £50k-a-week from the wage bill.

The major objective now will be finding a similar loan move for Pena, who returned to Scotland in December after two failed temporary moves last year.

Hopefully, before long, we can close this sorry chapter and ensure our resources are never so flagrantly wasted ever again.
