Rangers want £3.15m-rated creative midfielder at Ibrox this summer – could come cheap

|

Rangers are still interested in signing Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell this summer, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon is a known transfer hunter in the newspapers and on social media, often asked his opinion by fans on various comings and goings at clubs up and down the country.

Asked earlier this week whether Nick Powell would be renewing his contract at English Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic, Nixon said he is still set to leave.

Nixon was then asked whether Rangers still had an interest in signing him after reporting in January that the Gers were competing with Celtic for his signature.

The response was emphatic, Rangers are still ‘very’ interested.

That’s news that will likely excite Rangers supporters who are keen on seeing the club sign a creative attacking midfielder during the summer transfer window.

Some feel that kind of signing in the missing link in Steven Gerrard’s team.

Powell, who is rated as worth £3.15m by Transfermarkt, has scored six goals and assisted seven times in the Championship this season, following on from last season’s impressive campaign in League One where he helped Wigan gain promotion with 15 goals and seven assists.

That’s an attacking contribution that would go down very well in the central areas in our team.

With his contract expiring, meaning he could be available on a free transfer, we’d be stupid not to be at least enquiring about his services, with other big clubs likely in the hunt to add him to their squad.
