“We have no chance next week” – Gio has a lot to fix if Gers are to have any chance of Champions League success

Rangers have made history a few times under Giovanni van Bronckhorst when it comes to European exploits, and they will have to do so again if we are to turn over a 2-0 deficit at Ibrox next week.

We’ve never recovered from a two goal defeat to progress but there is, of course, a first time for everything, however, the gaffer has been quite clear about what we will need to do if we are to avoid a repeat of last night, as reported by The Daily Mail:

“We didn’t react well after (the opening goal) and were never really in the game.

“We made a lot of mistakes and we are a little bit lucky it’s only 2-0, although I was surprised the referee gave a penalty.

“We are still in the tie. We are capable of making up the 2-0 difference at Ibrox on Tuesday but we need to concentrate on our performance. If we have the same performance like we had today, we have no chance next week.”

Gio is right, for all that the players underperformed you would hope that he isn’t arrogant enough not to assess his own decision making and realise that he made mistakes.

We barely managed a shot on target, only one or two decent deliveries into the box and virtually nothing from set pieces. Add that to James Tavernier never getting into the box, Connor Goldson not finding the target with any long range balls and Antonio Colak being totally isolated and we clearly have more than one or two minor issues to address over the next week – starting with a Kilmarnock side at the weekend who are unlikely to come out and play expansive attacking football, a solution needs to be found, and that, is on Gio.
