Rangers will no doubt be looking to take advantage of the free transfer market in the summer with money being tighter than usual ahead of a possible Champions League campaign.

With this in mind Ross Wilson and his recruitment team will have their net cast far and wide looking to secure more bargains akin to Alfredo Morelos, Glen Kamara, Borna Barisic and Joe Aribo, but, are there any players closer to home that could do a job?

The Scottish Sun has provided a breakdown of all the senior players in the Premiership who will be out of contract – and loan deals ending –  in the summer including several internationals, 134 names in total are on the list but these are the most interesting.

Karamoko Dembele – Celtic

Borussia Dortmund are rumoured to be interested in the “wonderkid” but it really would signal the completion of the banter years baton being passed to the other half of the Old Firm if we picked up the 17-year old Scotland youth cap. He’s a talented player, it’s just a question of how much he believes his own hype and whether or not he will fulfil his potential.

Ofir Marciano – Hibernian

Put your money on him going to Celtic. The Israeli international is a decent stopper but I’m not sure he is better than what they already have, however, they love picking up a keeper from another Premiership side, he’s good but he’s no Allan McGregor or Jon McLaughlin.

Kyle Lafferty – Kilmarnock

If only he had demonstrated his current form when he was given a second chance with us he might still be here, the Northern Ireland international is single handedly trying to keep Killie up and with five goals and one assist, he’s doing a decent job.

Allan Campbell – Motherwell

The only player I’d be happy to see at Rangers on the whole list. Very much a work in progress and project player, he could be the next Ryan Jack but he could also be the next Greg Docherty, worth the punt on a free transfer though.

Declan Gallagher – Motherwell

Another one who could end up at Parkhead, a serviceable siege defender but as shown at international level with Scotland, his limited ability on the ball would see him way down the pecking order at Ibrox.

Jake Doyle-Hayes – St Mirren

Defensive midfielder who has been outstanding this season and will no doubt get a move to a bigger club, could do well at the likes of Hibs, only signed a 12-month contract after leaving Aston Villa in the summer of 2020 and looks as though it has been a good decision – will be interesting to see where he goes next.

The short answer is that none of them would immediately strengthen Rangers first XI, Campbell is the most likely but there are areas of his game that he would have to work on, between him and Doyle-Hayes, there are a couple of players who have proven that they can compete in the Premiership whilst also still providing room for development – they just aren’t on the technical level of the likes of Kamara and Aribo who we have, scarily, yet to see the best of.
