If you ever watched Big Brother when it was a social experiment rather than attention seeking nonsense, you will be well aware of the phrase “Who leaves? You decide”.

Thankfully, Rangers fans don’t have carte blanche with the squad this summer otherwise, after Sunday’s result, we’d probably be left with Alex Lowry, Charlie McCann and Leon King when pre-season kicked off, although Ianis Hagi probably gets a pass seeing as we were top of the league before he got injured.

What was going to be a big summer is going to be even bigger now, with the contract situation and a cycle coming to a natural end meaning that we could see several first choice players move on.

Whereas last season I would have sold Hagi over Joe Aribo, the Nigerian international’s form since January and length of his contract makes me think that we should cash in on him now whilst his valuation remains high. It would also allow us to reinvest in a key area of the park.

The other key player I’d consider letting go, if we have any offers that is, is Glen Kamara. He’s a fantastic footballer and has shown it on countless occasions but we need something different in our midfield now, as shown by John Lundstram and Ryan Jack. Kamara is neither a 6, 8 or a 10 in terms of traditional midfielders. Ironically, I think he would be better served moving to a better league where physicality is less of an issue.

Both of these players have been linked with transfers over £10million in the past and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to get more than this given what Nathan Patterson moved on for.

Some might agree and many will argue, but we don’t need a fire sale, we need fine tuning and money to strengthen in certain areas. It is time for some of the players to move on and, alongside those at the end of their respective contracts, we should see a much needed freshness when next season kicks off.
