Much of the debate on Rangers social media has been about whether or not we have actually strengthen the squad in this transfer window.

Steven Gerrard has added Nnamdi Ofoborh, John Lundstram, Juninho Bacuna and Fashion Sakala, with the short answer being, we don’t know yet.

Nobody can claim to know if we are stronger because we simply haven’t seen enough of the players that have been signed, to put it into perspective, Lundstram has played more minutes than the rest of the acquisitions put together and he has only managed 350 minutes – hardly a big enough sample size to judge a new signing.

If Lundstram can produce more of what he did against Ross County and Celtic when he came off the bench in both games then he will quickly win the fans over though, barely putting a foot wrong in defence, used the ball intelligently and contributed to the attack, exactly what we want to see from a box-to-box midfielder.

Sakala’s goal against Real Madrid gave us an early taste of what we might expect, pace, determination and a player who only has one thing in mind – scoring goals. A niggling groin injury picked up against Livingston on the opening day of the league campaign has been hugely frustrating, especially when he was desperately needed for the Champions League qualifiers, the international break has come at a good time for him and will give him the chance to fully recover and get up to speed.

Who scored the winner in Sunday's first Old Firm of 2021/22?

Before the window opened we needed to add to our midfield, we’ve done that with two players who have Premier League experience, we also needed another striker, and we’ve signed one who provides something different to what we already have with a track record of scoring goals.

On paper, it’s been a good window, but we’ll only be able to truly judge how good it’s been once the new additions have been given time to settle and – more importantly – actually play a decent amount of minutes.
