Rangers transfer target tipped to make big move after exceptional improvement

|

Former Ibrox captain Barry Ferguson is now a big admirer of Hearts defender and reported Rangers target John Souttar, speaking on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show.

Souttar has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox this summer with The Daily Record reporting last week that Steven Gerrard is an admirer and could replace departing loanee Joe Worrall with the Scotland international.

The 22-year-old is a stand-out at Tynecastle and one of the better young players in the division so it’s no surprise to hear teams are interested in him and he’s a viable option to come into the Gers defensive line next season.

Ferguson is a big fan having watched him closely over the last 12 months, changing his mind on just how good he is.

Speaking on on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Showthe former Rangers midfielder said:

I’ll be honest I wasn’t sure of him last season. I think this season he’s got better. Physically, he looks a lot stronger and in the games, I’ve seen, he’s certainly impressed. He’s going in the right direction.

I think he can be the next one to push to get into that Scotland team or a bigger move because as I say I think he’s got everything.

He’s a ball playing centre-half and he’s got the added bonus that he’s playing with Berra, who’s experienced and helping him along – he’s a boy who I certainly think can go to a higher level.

Souttar may be young but after bursting into the Dundee United team as a teenager he’s gone on to make over 180 senior appearances for his former club and current side Hearts.

That’s quite a lot of experience for a defender of his age.

Winning three Scotland caps in 2018 too, he’s clearly a player improving and developing all the time.

He fits the right profile in terms of what kind of players Rangers and fans want to see arriving at Ibrox and hopefully a deal can be sorted out this summer.
