Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson has admitted Rangers transfer target Jake Hastie could be left out of his upcoming team selections, giving up all hope of keeping him at Fir Park this summer.

Rangers are said to be interested in signing the youngster on a free transfer at the end of the season with his current deal at the Steelmen set to expire.

A number of clubs are chasing him and Motherwell have offered him a contract, but they now know he won’t be playing his football there next season, leaving the door open for Director of Football Mark Allen to seal his move to Ibrox.

Robinson is now even considering excluding him from future starting elevens.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the Motherwell boss said:

I don’t think Jake will sign for us.

I am not 100 per cent where he will go, but I have an idea and it won’t be signing for Motherwell.

For me it’s about making sure Motherwell are strong for next year.

We have made him the best offer the club can do and he’s not signed it, so I would say that’s a good indication.

Will that affect my team selections for the rest of the season? Quite possibly.

Given Robinson has an idea of where he might be heading, it sounds like a deal for the player is close, whether that’s Rangers or another side.

Hastie has banged in seven goals since bursting into the Motherwell first-team in January, emerging as one of the brightest prospects in the Scottish Premiership.

With the ability to play on either flank he could give us a real attacking boost for next season, with his power and pace obvious to anyone who has seen him in action in recent months.

He has a long way to go to be the finished article, but considering he is still just 20 years of age he has plenty of time to get there.
