The textbook example of how Rangers player trading model should work involves recruiting a young player either on a Bosman free transfer or development fee, coach them, then sell them at a profit that allows some money to be re-invested in to the playing squad with a few pounds also put away for a rainy day.

In Calvin Bassey, Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo, we have four players who tick all these boxes, players who have all made huge contributions in their respective Rangers careers and who have all seen their stock, and value, rise exponentially.

Currently, it is the latter attracting most of the attention with a rumoured release clause of £10million said to be keeping several Premier League clubs on their toes with All Nigeria Soccer adding a new name to the list:

“It was previously reported that Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Crystal Palace were the front runners for the signature of Glasgow Rangers star Joe Aribo this summer but allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that something else is brewing, with Southampton now genuinely working on deal to sign the Nigeria international in recent days.”

Despite the release clause, it may be that Rangers actually get a better deal without it being triggered. A smaller up front fee but with add-ons or a sell on percentage would probably work better for us in the long run although an eight-figure fee for a player who cost us £300,000 isn’t exactly a bad profit.

There definitely seems to be more smoke around Aribo than any other Rangers player though and it may be that we don’t even see him back for pre-season training, with competition expected to be fierce, despite the clause, Ross Wilson could well be in the negotiation driving seat.
