With Sky Sports and Michael Beale suggesting that Nicolas Raskin might not be the only addition on transfer deadline day, speculation as to who else Ross Wilson might be targeting has been like throwing darts in the dark.

Jake Cooper and Josh Onomah have been linked recently, however, it is a loan signing – something Beale was adamant that we wouldn’t be seeing – that has just emerged.

The Sun claims that we aren’t the only club interested in the attacking midfielder in a move that would certainly be a surprise given Beale’s previous comments about short-term deals:

“Rangers are the latest club to get knocked back in a bid to take Manchester City rookie Cole Palmer on loan, according to Phil Thomas.

“The Ibrox giants hoped City would let the 20-year-old striker move to Scotland for the rest of the season, with the promise of regular first team football.

“But Pep Guardiola put the blocks on a move, as he insists Palmer – who has played nine Prem games from the bench this term – has a role to play at the Etihad.”

This sort of deal just makes no sense at all. Ianis Hagi is fit again, Todd Cantwell has been signed and we have Malik Tillman, Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala and Scott Arfield that can all play similar roles, and that’s not including Alex Lowry either which would be my biggest objection.

Bringing in a playmaker/attacking midfielder on loan sends out completely the wrong signal to Lowry and goes against everything the manager has been saying. For the sake of six-months, regardless of how good Palmer is, it would cause more harm than good.
