Rangers are said to be close to signing Colombian wonderkid Juan Alegria but face an anxious wait to see if the “imminent” deal can actually be completed.

The cloud that is Brexit is hanging over British clubs as they face an uncertain future with regards to recruiting players from both outside and inside the European Union and former Ger, Alan Hutton, is hoping that there is a way to get through the red tape in an interview with Football Insider:

“Yeah, of course. Of course it’s going to have an impact, especially for the player themselves.

“I mean, we all know how big a club Rangers are, Celtic as well and even in the English Premier League and if it’s going to kind of scupper some of the deals, it’s a nightmare for both sides.

“It’s something that everybody’s going to have to deal with, not just Rangers, so hopefully there’s a way around it or something that can help, because we want to see these young players come along and grow and become stars if you want.

“We wouldn’t want something like Brexit getting in the way of someone’s development.”

As yet, we have no real idea what is going to happen, however, we have seen the Premier League hit with restrictions that could see them look north of the border for the best under-18s so the SPFL will have to change the habit of a lifetime and be proactive, so that the best interests of their member clubs are being served.

Will Rangers get the Alegria deal over the line?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Rangers fans of a certain age will remember Mario Jardel not being able to sign for Walter Smith only to go on and score hundreds of goals across European football with the reason being that the last work permit was taken up by Kilmarnock for a player that hardly saw the light of day – a return to those days would do little to help our chances of becoming self sufficient if our only viable market was the SPFL or England.
