Rangers defence looks a lot more settled now than it did when we had Leon King and James Sands playing at the heart of it, understandable given they have less than 20 games between them in the position at this level.

The return of both Connor Goldson and Ben Davies has seen us look solid and much more like the side that broke records winning the title a couple of seasons ago, however, with Leon Balogun away, Filip Helander looking like he won’t kick a ball for us again and Sands not doing enough to justify his price tag, it is a position that we will need to strengthen.

In Dion Sanderson, Michael Beale looks to have identified someone who can provide back up in a couple of positions and could be developed in a similar way to that of Calvin Bassey.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, transfer journalist Dean Jones isn’t surprised at the link and has backed the move to be a success should it come off:

“It’s a tricky one given his current loan situation, but his profile does fit with the foresight of Beale and the team around him.

“It has been expected since he came to the job that he would draw on experience and contacts within the Football League to find talent that would fit and be elevated within the SPFL. So again, with all that in mind, it does seem one that would make some sense.”

As Jones touches on, Sanderson is currently on loan at Birmingham City from Wolverhampton Wanderers so we would have to get approval from two parties if it was a deal we were trying to get over the line. I don’t think it is a transfer that we will be looking at for this window, purely because of this situation but, it’s definitely one we should be keeping an eye on.
