As with any transfer rumour there have been claim and counter claim regarding the future of Borna Barisic, reports out of Ibrox suggesting that no offers have been made and yet, elsewhere, we are being told that talks have already begun over a potential move.

The club said to be most interested is Turkish champions Trabzonspor, with Rangers said to value the Croatian international around the £4million mark, a deal that would see us double our money despite the experienced defender approaching his 30th birthday.

Fotomac, a Turkish media outlet claims that Barisic is on a list of four names as they look to strengthen a problem position:

“Transfer work continues for Trabzonspor, the champion of the Super League. While the first target in the burgundy-blues is left-back reinforcement, there are 4 names on the agenda.

“The management, which is in contact with Eren Elmalı, Ezgjan Alioski, Borna Barisic and Stryger Larsen, aims to add the most suitable name in terms of cost + quality.”

The player himself is unaware of any talks but, as he told RTL, he is fully aware of how football works and if an acceptable offer comes in them he could well have played his last game for Rangers:

“I don’t know only about the club, but I am good there and enjoy it.

“However in football, you never know, there are always some inquiries.

“There could be an offer that satisfies the club and me. Of course, you will leave (then) but until then it does not go further.”

For £2m, I don’t think there can be many complaints about the service Barisic has given us over the last four years, yes, he has had the occasional dip in form but a confident and full fit Borna is a huge asset to any team, there is a reason he continues to get selected for one of the best international sides in the world.

The fee being talked about would also allow us to bring in a replacement be it, Josh Tymon, Josh Doig or Emmanuel Longelo without having to dip into our own coffers, we also still – for now – have Calvin Bassey on the books.
