Rangers link to Aston Villa youngster Cameron Archer is one that has not yet been dismissed by the usual sources so there may well be something in it.

The England Under-21 international striker had an outstanding season last year, his first in which he played senior football, scoring 20 goals in total and creating five assists with seven goals in 20 games for Preston in the Championship.

You would like to think that Rangers would have a decent chance of signing the 20-year old with former gaffer, Steven Gerrard, knowing exactly what we could offer him with journalist, Peter O’Rourke, backing Rangers to come out on top in the chase for his signature, as reported by GiveMeSport:

“Rangers will be hoping that regular first-team football and the chance to play European football might give them the edge over several Championship clubs who are also keen on him.”

Archer has proven that he can handle the Championship so it may be that seeing how he copes with the expectation of having to win every week in front of 50,00 home fans is the next natural step to challenge him and prepare him for life in the Premier League – having technical ability is one thing but being able to deal with pressure is an entirely different matter.

Leading the line and being expected to score goals every game is a hard task for even experienced strikers who wear the famous Light Blue shirt and, as Cedric Itten found out, it doesn’t take long for fans to make their minds up whether or not you have what it takes – when Alfredo Morelos is the man you are deputising for, the expectations are even higher.
