Rangers chances of success will improve when our Romanian playmaker Ianis Hagi is fully fit and available for selection again. He could be inconsistent but he could also be the difference between winning and losing.

The Gers number seven is back in contact training now so a return won’t be far away, however, according to a report on social media, we could well be in for Hagi 2.0.

Alexi Pitut is also known for his creativity and the FCV Farul forward has been linked with a move to Govan by FootballTransfers.

Crunching the numbers, analyst Patrick Caskie has been encouraged by the report and that Pitu – on a free transfer – could well be worth a punt:

“Pitu is OOC in June, and would likely play on the left or as a conventional 10 for Rangers.

“He is a good ball carrier, works well in tight spaces, is an accurate ball striker (purple-patch?), good work rate, and times his actions well, his biggest concern is physical strength.”

It’s funny because we always worry about the physicality of players coming to Scotland, for me, it’s more about mentality.

Steven Davis isn’t big and neither was Neil McCann but they could both handle themselves and good players will always adapt to their circumstances – Maradona and Lionel Messi could hardly be described as imposing figures and yet they are two of the greatest to ever kick a ball.

It’s encouraging to see us linked with a player outside of England and Belgium and, finally, it looks as though we are aiming to attract a talented youngster before they make their big move. If it doesn’t work out, the costs involved mean that we aren’t out of pocket either, it’s a gamble worth taking especially if he can match the exploits of his compatriot.
