Rangers have announced the departure of Mateusz Zukowski back to Poland and to Lech Poznan with the young right-back being given the chance to impress on loan, an option to buy clause also part of the deal.

One of the main reasons for allowing the January acquisition to leave is because of how limited first-team minutes will be under James Tavernier but, after the emergence of Adam Devine at the end of last season, Rangers have decided to go with the Scot as the backup to the skipper.

According to Football Insider, this has been emphasised with the Scotland youth international being given a new deal which will see him stay at Ibrox and continue his progress as the next academy star to, potentially, make the step up to the first-team on a full-time basis:

“Rangers have reached an agreement with Adam Devine over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

“The Glasgow giants have been working on a deal to keep the right-back, 19, beyond the summer of 2023. Now, terms have been agreed with Devine over a three-year deal that will run until 2025.”

The problem with the right-back position is a good one in that our best and most consistent player is booking the path of any youngster but Devine has plenty of time on his hands and, if he is patient, could well be ready for more regular game time just as Tavernier will need to have his managed more carefully.

Devine will now want to look at how Nathan Patterson grabbed every chance he was given and at former academy team-mates Alex Lowry and Leon King, being young only gives you so long as an excuse in the Rangers jersey, the shirt never shrinks to fit, regardless of age.
