This week will lead us into June and with it, transfer and contract activity is likely to get underway at Ibrox.

A lot of business remains to be done in-house with some contract extensions likely, whilst others will head for the exit ahead of any new permanent signings, relating to out of contract players and those to be bought once the transfer window opens on Friday 10 June.

Deals can be agreed ahead of this date, but registrations can only be confirmed on or after that point.

Outcome

Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Leon Balogun are all in the last few days of their existing Rangers deals, with confirmation expected soon on their status into the new season. The expectation is that at least two will remain at Ibrox into the months ahead.

The other senior first team player out of contract is Connor Goldson. It appears that the Englishman will confirm a return south very soon, with some reports suggesting new promoted Nottingham Forest will be his destination. The 29-year old almost ever-present will be a difficult act to replace given his impact and reliability to the Rangers defence over the last four seasons.

In terms of sales, a handful of players will continue to be linked with moves away. Cedric Itten is the latest with a probable return home to Switzerland set to happen. The striker needs some stability and momentum in his career and the Super League could represent one step back in order to take two forward. He still has time on his side to improve and reach the next level but it won’t be with Rangers.

Otherwise, Calvin Bassey continues to feature in the headlines with his latest Nigeria exploits adding to his prominence. Those reports aren’t going away anytime soon. Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Glen Kamara and the captain, James Tavernier will have impressed watching clubs toward the end of the season and expect activity relating to at least a couple of those four mentioned.

This Summer will see a balance of continuity and player trading, but some change is guaranteed.
