Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers will play League Two Stirling Albion in the first game of their Scottish Cup campaign this season.

The game will take place at Ibrox on the weekend of Saturday 22nd January after the New Year break for Premiership clubs in Scotland which comes directly after the Old Firm derby on Sunday 2nd January.

The tie provides an ideal chance for squad players to be used if required, just before the Premiership campaign resumes at the end of January.

At the weekend, Stirling overcame Tranent Juniors 4-0 in a comfortable win at Forthbank Stadium.

Previous success

In his playing days at Ibrox, Gio won the Scottish Cup on two occasions. The first was the 1-0 Old Firm final in 1999 followed by the famous Oranje Day at Hampden one year later when the Gers trounced Aberdeen.

Hopefully more cup success will follow at the first time of trying as Rangers manager for the Dutchman.

Rangers last Scottish Cup victory came back in 2009 with a 1-0 over Falkirk thanks to a spectacular Nacho Novo strike. That drought has gone on too long and it is time for cup silverware to be brought back to Ibrox.
