Today, FC Pakhtakor confirmed that their new manager is 90s Rangers hero, Pieter Huistra.

The Dutchman has taken the reigns from another former Rangers title winner, Shota Arveladze who lead the club to a very successful spell in recent years.

Huistra had actually been an assistant to the Georgian since June 2017.

The club statement included, “Pieter Huistra, who until today worked as an assistant coach of our team, has been appointed as head coach of the Lions (Pakhtakor).”

“He worked with Shota Arveladze as part of the coaching staff. Thus, the game of the team practicing the philosophy of attacking football will be continued. Pakhtakor will continue to delight spectators and fans, demonstrating beautiful, dynamic, attacking football, without changing its style and philosophy, which has been built in recent years.
“Pieter during his football career played at the famous Glasgow Rangers in Scotland for five seasons and five times became the country‘s champion.
Arveladze, who won the Uzbek league and cup double in 2018/19 and 2019/ 20 with the club, sent the following message on his Twitter account this afternoon.
