Rangers supporters will be present in Dortmund next week, following today’s confirmation by the club that an official away allocation has been received.

As expected, the Westfalenstadion will be nowhere near capacity for the Europa League Playoff round (Last 32) first leg but the dreaded empty stadium situation has been avoided this time.

The statement from the club included:

“Rangers have been allocated 500 tickets for next Thursday’s UEFA Europa League tie at Borussia Dortmund.”

“Capacity for the match has been set at 10,000, and while we share in our supporters’ disappointment at not having a larger allocation, we are pleased we will have some travelling fans in the stadium.”

“MyGers members will shortly be invited by email to register for the ballot, and we expect demand to far outweigh supply for this match.”

Bittersweet

When Rangers were paired with Borussia Dortmund in the draw, the reaction was one of excitement mixed with regret as most fans had accepted early on that there was never a likely chance of a full allocation of tickets within a stadium packed to capacity.

In ‘normal’ circumstances, many thousands of Bears would have travelled to the North-Rhine Westphalia region to enjoy the city and renowned German hospitality. Approximately 3300 tickets would have came Rangers way but now just over 10% will get to take in the surroundings of the iconic stadium.

Despite a diminished spectacle for the first leg, a capapcity crowd is expected at Ibrox one week later. The aim for players and supporters alike will be for the tie to still be ‘in play’ in order for a memorable night to follow, on and off the pitch in Glasgow on 24th February.
