Rangers remain in the hunt for additional firepower and if the comfortable 1-0 victory proved anything, it is that Steven Gerrard doesn’t believe his bench is strong enough to assist those currently leading the line.

One man who is still considered to be a target – and has been the subject of a rejected bid by Celtic – is Peterborough United’s Ivan Toney, with the League One top goalscorer is rumoured to be attracting attention from several high profile teams The Daily Record reporting that his future is still up in the air.

The Posh’s Manager, Darren Ferguson, will be loath to see his star man leave the club but knows that if the club hasn’t received an acceptable offer, that he will be going into the new season with his best player still at the club:

“We will have to wait and see with Ivan and it could be a distraction if his situation rumbles on. That wouldn’t be ideal.

“It would be better if things were resolved quickly, but the owners quite rightly won’t sell him unless they get the right price so it could be we end up with the best striker in League One playing for us at the start of the season so I’m quite relaxed about it.”

The Gers have been linked with a number of strikers over the last few weeks and Gerrard revealed at the weekend that he expects to see new faces this week, Bongani Zungu might not be a forward but he would give much needed dynamism in midfield, however, reinforcements in attack are without a doubt the number one priority – especially if Lille follow up their initial interest in Alfredo Morelos.

Should Rangers break the bank for Ivan Toney?

Yes

No

Toney could be one of the new faces but given the fee being quoted by Peterborough, Rangers would be highly unlikely to invest as much on a player who is untested at the highest level and it may be that their name is getting dropped purely to encourage their Old Firm rivals to up their bid.
