Striker Jermain Defoe has ruled out a move away from Bournemouth, discussing previous reports he could arrive at Rangers this summer.

It was reported by The Sun way back in May, shortly after Steven Gerrard arrived at Ibrox, that Defoe was one of the players that may end up at Rangers on a loan deal, targeted by the incoming manager.

However, it appears there is little chance of him joining, with the player ruling out any later transfer drama and looking set to stay at the Cherries for the 2018/19 season.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, and discussing the link to Rangers, the striker said:

I saw some of that, but again, that’s just something I’ve always had.  Even when I’ve been at clubs and played every game, you’ll always find something, especially with social media now.

I’ve played with Steven Gerrard and we’ve got the same agent. I’m just like everyone else, you see things on Twitter and in the papers, but that’s it really.

Despite now being 35 years of age, Defoe could have been a very useful attacking option for Gerrard this season, who is still looking for a third striker to complement Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq.

The former England international has netted 34 Premier League goals over the last three seasons, proving he still has what it takes to make an impact at the highest level.

Sadly, for Rangers, he won’t banging in the goals at Ibrox anytime soon.
