Rangers talks with talented 24-year-old confirmed – two other clubs interested

|

Rangers have been in discussions with goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann about a potential move to Ibrox this summer, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has been a stand-out on loan at Kilmarnock from Watford this season, making a number of crucial saves and helping them to fourth place in the Scottish Premiership.

He’s conceded just 22 goals in 26 matches for Steve Clarke’s side this term, keeping 12 clean sheets in the process.

The player himself has confirmed talks have taken place with Rangers, along with two German clubs, although admits his ambition is playing at English Premier League level.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Bachmann said:

I’ve enjoyed my time with Kilmarnock a great deal, but it’ll be over in a few weeks.

There have been talks with Rangers, although no firm offers and two German clubs have also shown interest in me.

My priority will be to compete for a place at Watford next season. Ben Foster has had a great campaign and he’ll be first choice in pre-season.

But I’m convinced I have a chance. He is not getting any younger and he’s not faced any real competition this season.

Clearly a shot-stopper with significant potential, he could certainly provide capable cover for Allan McGregor and perhaps one day be his long-term replacement.

The onus is really on Rangers to show significant interest in the player if we want him, with his contract at Watford set to expire next season.

A bid this summer could tempt him to return north, especially if his pre-season plans don’t work out in the way he wants.

McGregor has had a fantastic campaign in 2018/19 since re-signing at Ibrox and will likely be between the sticks again next term, but given he is now 37 years of age we do need to think about a succession plan eventually.
