Rangers Take Second Place As Gerrard Marches On & Others Slip Up – Whisper It Quietly We’re Above Celtic

With plenty of positives to take from Rangers’ Europa League draw with Villarreal in midweek, it was back to Premiership action yesterday and an Ibrox based affair against St Johnstone.

Fans had few worries going into the match given the spirit and confidence shown in the last game and the players proved they’d taken a damn good boost from our Spanish adventure by hammering five past our opposition at the weekend.

James Tavernier opened the scoring and was joined on the scoresheet by Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield, Kyle Lafferty and Daniel Candeias – although the visitors did help themselves to a consolation from the penalty spot but nobody was going to let that ruin the day.

Hearts and Celtic dropped points this weekend so the victory propelled us into second place in the table and we are now five behind Hearts, ahead of both Hibernian and Livingston on goal difference.

This, of course, hasn’t happened, but Celtic are behind us in sixth place so whisper it quietly.

We have a long way to go yet and there’s plenty of games left in the season, but if you don’t enjoy weekends like that you’re following the wrong sport.
