Rangers summer transfer target discusses rumoured move to Ibrox

|

Hearts defender John Souttar brushed off speculation linking him with a move to Rangers at the weekend, as reported by The Sunday Post.

The Daily Record reported on Friday evening that the Scotland international has emerged as a top transfer target for Ibrox Director of Football Mark Allen ahead of the summer window, seen as a replacement for Joe Worrall who is returning to parent club Nottingham Forest at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old was in fine form for his club during Saturday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness CT, scoring in a 3-0 win and making a number of vital defensive interventions.

After the match, he was asked whether he was aware of Rangers’ interest in him, offering a vague response to The Sunday Post: “I didn’t see it. I don’t tend to look at my phone on match days and it’s the first I’ve heard of it.”

With three years left on his current contract at Tynecastle, the onus will be on the Gers recruitment team to show they are serious about his signature with a generous bid if we truly want him.

The Record report a seven-figure fee will be required and there likely won’t be much development on this transfer rumour unless the club make a firm offer.
