Michael Beale had three fit strikers for all of one game, Giovanni van Bronckhorst never had that luxury and it is definitely a reason why we have dropped points over the last couple of seasons.

First of all, we lost Alfredo Morelos because he run himself into the ground with Kemar Roofe out and Cedric Itten suffering the effects of Covid-19, then this season, Antonio Colak has had to carry the team virtually on is own up until the World Cup break.

The Gers gaffer has spoken abut bringing in a new striker which, speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton agrees with:

“I think if Morelos goes he will definitely have to bring somebody in, there is not getting away from that.

“I think that is a must. Colak has done ever so well and he has had to bide his time, having a little injury, Morelos coming in and actually doing well for a period of time.

“Whenever he comes in he scores goals, makes things happen. If Morelos goes he will have to bring somebody in but Colak is a very good option.“

Even if Morelos doesn’t go, we need to bring one in. Successful Rangers teams of the past always had a group of four forwards that they could rely upon depending on the opposition and, even though he didn’t start all the time, we haven’t replace Jermain Defoe in terms of someone who can come off the bench or be a reliable backup.

If the Colombian international, as expected, moves elsewhere, then we will need to bring two more forwards in. We don’t know what sort of shape Roofe will be back in when he returns from hip surgery and there is every chance that we will have Champions League qualifiers to navigate once again. You can’t compete at that level without proper quality and depth.

With Roofe only having a year left on his contract and his availability this season, added to Morelos’s contract status, you would like to think that Ross Wilson already has options lined up to go with the mystery man that Beale has his eye on.

We might have to spend a few million to get the right players in but, if we get it wrong, it could cost us even more.
