Aston Villa’s “approach” for Steven Gerrard is certainly filling the void caused by the international and for all that speculation linking the Rangers manager with a move to Newcastle United was quickly dismissed, the Midlands club’s position as one of England’s biggest clubs historically has made fans a little more apprehensive about the rumours.
Villa are currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League just five points off the bottom of the table, conceding an average of nearly two goals a game usually makes points hard to come by, making them far from an attractive proposition on paper – they also lost their best and most creative player in the summer when Jack Grealish signed for Manchester City.
Will Gerrard go to Aston Villa?
Yes
No
But, his relationship with Christian Purslow who he worked with at Liverpool, and the potential that Villa has to follow the likes of West Ham United and Leicester City in mixing it with the league established “big six” means that this isn’t a story that will go away until either Rangers, Gerrard or Villa rule out the move.
For fans of the Ibrox club, opinion seems to be divided as seen by the reaction on social media, the arguments for him to stay include:
Gerrard is hooked on rangers. He gets us , he won’t get the time at villa that rangers gave him
Get relegated and he’s out of a job in the summerGerrards ambition will be to go to a club who won’t be happy just staying up year on year
Bigger league , smaller club

Used to be a big club in the 80s they’re mid table at best now if Gerrard stays at rangers and gets more success the chances of the Liverpool job improve but if he stalls at villa he’ll never get the Liverpool job, that’s his dream after all

Frank lampard left derby went to Chelsea didn’t work out he hasn’t had work since. Personally I think Steven Gerrard leaving rangers just now is a massive risk for his own career. There is no doubt he will leave at some point but no the Villa job. They are a struggling club.

With those that are less confident in the gaffer staying:
I don’t want to see it, but I’ve got a feeling Steven Gerrard might actually take this Aston Villa job. If he doesn’t this time, it would only be a matter of time before he does take a job that takes his fancy. Rangers need to prepare for that.

And now I’m learning that Steven Gerrard knows the Aston Villa CEO, Christian Purslow, from their Liverpool days. I think things just got interesting, this will be a big decision for Gerrard to make. I hope he decides to stay but I hope Ross Wilson and Rangers have a plan B.

Like it or not Villa are making an approach in the next 48 hours for Gerrard. The fact it will get that far indicates some interest from our Manager. What is our plan B?

Without Gerrard’s relationship with Purslow, I don’t think this would even be a starter, however, it’s enough to muddy the waters and throw an element of doubt into some fans’ minds, there will be a lot of Aston Villa and EPL fans eating their words when he turned them down though – a bigger club than Rangers? I’ll tell the jokes.
