Gerrard sets out Champions League transfer plans as Gers focus on “fine tuning”

|

Steven Gerrard’s mantra of “let’s go” has now changed to “let’s get more” after securing the 55th top fight title in the club’s long and illustrious history.

Although there is plenty still to play for this season, attention has – partially – been turned to the Champions League next year and the step up in quality that Rangers will face, with this in mind, the gaffer has faced questions on whether or not recruitment will have to be adjusted to take this into consideration.

Speaking to BT Sport and reported by The Daily Record, Gerrard had some good news for Gers fans:

“Let’s hope so. It’s obviously been the dream since day one and I’d love nothing better than to try and deliver that for the supporters.

“What’s important is there will be private conversations. Recruitment never stops here, we all understand that football is all about levels and to keep progressing and moving forward you have to keep fine tuning and adding.

“Everyone’s on the same page, top to bottom. Everyone is sharing the dream, everyone wants to continue to add to the success.

“Everyone is hungry to keep improving things here, that is the message that everyone needs to hear.”

The squad has been gradually improved over a three year period without having to break the bank and it looks as though the pre-contract/free transfer market will be one that Rangers continue to take advantage of, not only because there are bargain’s to be had, but because it fits the transfer model of buying cheap, developing, then selling high.

With three on board for next season, hopefully the key players approaching the end of their contracts will be next to be signed up – it makes recruitment so much easier if all you are doing is trying to identify two or three players that can add genuine quality rather than a total rebuild.
