Steven Davis has undoubtedly had his finest season as a Rangers player, that he is closer to being 40-years old than 30, is nothing short of miraculous.

Speaking to Football Insider, former England international Paul Robinson believes that the Northern Ireland skipper will end his playing days at Ibrox becoming a club legend in the process:

“I could see Steven Davis finishing his career at Rangers.

“Steven Gerrard has built a fantastic team there and Davis has been a massive part of that. He is playing the best football of his whole career.

“I think we will see Davis sign another year but I would not be surprised if he signs another year after that.

“Rangers will take some beating in the next two or three seasons. He could go on to win two, three or four trophies before ending his career there as a club legend.”

It is a very different Steven Davis to the one that left Rangers in 2012, that he refused to sign for Southampton until they paid a fee in return says it all about the former skipper though and after a slow start, his importance to Steven Gerrard has never been more apparent than this season where he has been an almost ever present – that he didn’t start our only defeat paints its own picture.

Will Davis retire at Rangers?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It’s a cliché but age really is just a number, Allan McGregor has shown in both domestic and continental football that there are few better than him in Britain at keeping the ball out of the net and he will be 40 if he stays around for another season, Davis is the perfect professional and has shown little sign of slowing down either physically or mentally – title number 55 will just be the start, and Robinson is right, a place in the Hall of Fame surely awaits one of the finest midfielders to ever don the famous Light Blue jersey.
