Radio pundit Jim Duffy reckons Celtic could end up making a move for Rangers winger Ryan Kent this summer, when his loan from Liverpool expires, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Kent has been a big hit with Rangers supporters this season and many had held out hope he could make a permanent switch to Ibrox at the end of the season, or at least sign up for another year long loan.

Reports yesterday though suggested that Liverpool had slapped an £8m-£10m price tag on his head, eager to cash in on a player who has already been sent out on loan five times.

That effectively rules Rangers out of the running for his signature and Radio Clyde pundit Jim Duffy reckons it could mean Celtic enter the race for his transfer.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said:

He’s a Liverpool player and yes, he’s played for Rangers but he’s not a Rangers fan. He’s not been brought up in this. Even if he was nowadays, if a bid is accepted…

Celtic paid £9m for Edouard who’s a player with potential and certainly wasn’t the finished article.

I think Ryan Kent is certainly not the finished article and he’s got a lot to learn. His final ball, he’s got to create and assist more, he’s got to score more goals. There’s times when he goes past people but there has to be more of an end product.

I’m not sure he’s ready to come up and play for that kind of money. If it was somewhere around the £7m mark then it might be an investment for Celtic.

Clearly any move across the city would be controversial but if the Hoops want to shell out that kind of money for him then they are more than welcome from my point of view.

Don’t get me wrong, Kent is a good player and has been exciting to watch this season but his end product leaves a lot to be desired when you approach fees beyond £5m.

With just five goals and nine assists in 37 matches this season, he could and should be producing a much higher direct goal contribution.

As a loan move he’s been a great signing, as a £7m, £8m or £9m player? The jury is very much out. It’s not a risk I’d want Rangers to take.
