Rangers star takes media shot at rivals ahead of Aberdeen clash

|

Rangers defender Jon Flanagan wants a statement win against ‘long ball’ Aberdeen today, claiming the Dons ‘don’t play that much football’, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The Gers have had a hard time against Derek McInnes’ side this season, winning just one of the six fixtures against them this season, losing three and drawing the other two.

It’s not exactly the kind of record that would usually result in a bit of trash talking prior to the match, but Flanagan clearly feels that Steven Gerrard’s team are due a result against the Pittodrie outfit.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the former Liverpool man said:

Aberdeen don’t play that much football. They try and make it tough by playing long balls and getting in your face. But we have got to be able to deal with that.

You know it is always going to be tough against them and you are always going to have a bit of a battle.

But it is what it is and we have got to overcome that. Rangers are a massive club and we have got to be beating Aberdeen no matter what they throw at us.

I think we owe them one, the chat amongst the lads and the team is that we owe them one. We haven’t been at our best against them this year and I think it is time to put a statement out and try and get the win.

It’s obviously pleasing to hear our players are confident ahead of the match and there may be some truth about the style of football Aberdeen play against us, but really I’d rather the team did their talking on the pitch.

This, coupled with Gerrard’s recent comments about the Dons, will do nothing but serve as motivation for our visitors today and they don’t need much more of that considering how much they dislike us.

Hopefully our pre-match declarations don’t come back to haunt us come 5pm this afternoon.
