It was a frustrating day on the pitch for Rangers as the team didn’t quite do enough to get the win at Fir Park, but for one man who played a key role in the 1-1 draw, it was a day of personal recognition as Steven Davis played his 300th overall game for the Gers.

Now in his second stint with the club, the man from Culleybackey on County Antrim is still doing the business at the age of 36 and speaking ahead of the game against Motherwell, his manager Steven Gerrard was full of praise for him.

Gerrard’s regard for a man he previously knew as a “wonderful footballer” and competitor has been increased by managing him.

The Ibrox boss said, “When you work with somebody on a daily basis, you see how they go about their routine,” as reported by BBC Sport.

“You see their focus and how low maintenance they are. The sacrifices they make to be the best version of themselves.”

“Steven is really at the forefront of that, so in many ways he has surprised me but not as a footballer or the level I know he can play at because I knew that first hand from competing against him.”

To date, Davis has gathered three league titles, two Scottish Cups, three League Cups as well as one UEFA Cup final appearance with Rangers, all from his first spell under Walter Smith.

With the current absence of Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield, Davis is a vital cog in the Gers midfield and his form has played a part in the 21 gap at the top of Premiership table.

He will continue to feature regularly to add to his 300 appearances as the team push on in their title charge, which will hopefully result in a fourth Scottish title winners medal for Davis.

Record imminent

Another milestone is in reach, this time on the international stage, as the player is now just two caps away from setting the all-time British appearance record, currently held at 125, by former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

This is set to be smashed as the captain will be involved in Northern Ireland’s upcoming World Cup qualification campaign, commencing in March.

Steven Davis, for club and country, still going strong.
