More of the same for Gers as familiar face returns to Ibrox

Rangers face St Johnstone tomorrow for our second home game of the season, Saturday kick-offs at 3pm have been a rarity over the last few years and yet it could become the norm if we manage to see of PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League play-off round.

Callum Davidson failed to live up to his first season cup double success after losing both Jason Kerr and Ali McCann and decided this summer to add a bit of experience to his side in the shape of former Ger Jamie Murphy and disgruntled Aberdeen centre-half Andrew Considine.

The Saints have had a stuttering start to 2022/23 with draws against Queen of the South and Annan Athletic in the League Cup, a narrow win over Ayr United in the same competition and one win from two in the Premiership against fellow strugglers Motherwell.

It’s pretty safe to assume that, for the fifth time this season, we will see an opposition team sitting in their own half rather than having a go – such is their choice – and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be hoping for an earlier goal this time around in the hope that St Johnstone become more adventurous and leave more space ahead of a massive game against PSV Eindhoven in mid-week.

With players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos needing minutes to get up to speed, Ridvan Yilmaz and Ben Davies needing minutes to adjust to new team-mates and a new system and players like Ryan Jack and Fashion Sakala not featuring recently, we could see a much changed, but still strong, team.

Every game has seen a gradual improvement – if you ignore the Belgian debacle whatever that was –  and we should be well used to having to break down a stubborn defence by now, no excuses, get the job done and, preferably, get it done early.
