I know it won’t be much of a consolation but, just in case it is, Sparta Prague are in a worst state than us.

After looking like we had turned some of the corner before the international break, the defeat to Hibs has put as back to square one, maybe even further back.

There is no time for feeling sorry for ourselves though and with Giovanni van Bronckhorst now at the helm and in full control, we should see a response at Ibrox on Thursday night when the Czechs come to town for the winner-takes-all encounter.

Like us though, Sparta had a stinker at the weekend, losing 4-0 to second placed Slovacko, manager Pavel Vrba going as far as to suggest that it is the worst he has seen his team play, as reported by MSN:

“When I started in BanĂk, we lost even more significantly in Slavia. But if I put it in the context of our ambitions, it is probably the most overwhelming. Definitely for me personally. ”

We need to see a positive response on Thursday and it could be the perfect fixture to get Gio’s reign off and running, it would certainly be the perfect way for the players to get back in favour with the fans even if a cup final would probably be preferable to knock out football after Christmas for most fans.

That Sparta shipped four goals is something that we should look to take advantage of and really go for them from the first whistle, imagine the difference getting the first goal would make for our confidence and for our fans who are now sick of giving teams a head start.

We’ve faced bigger tests in European football and came through them, it’s time for the players to stop feeling sorry for themselves and get their fingers out.
