If Rangers are to qualify and compete in the Champions League next season, we have to be able to attract players that have experience of continental football and are a step above what we already have.

In Alfredo Morelos we have a player born for the big stage, but if we receive an offer for him this summer and it matches our valuation of him then there is every chance that he will have played his last game in a Light Blue shirt – hopefully it will be after he has fired us into the group stages, seeing as Kemar Roofe is likely to be banned for the qualifiers.

With this in mind, identifying a striker who can fill the boots of the enigmatic Colombian is not going to be an easy task. They will have to be able to cope with the technical aspects of Europe’s elite competition whilst also being able to handle the physicality of the Scottish Premiership.

Remember Sory Kaba? The 6ft 3inch Midtjylland forward is hard to miss given his physical stature and it was in 2019 when we first came across him during one of Rangers finest away displays in Europe, the Ghanian international scoring his side’s second goal in a 4-2 triumph for the Light Blues.

Valued at just £2.25million on Transfermarkt, the 25-year old is very much in the mould of Morelos, capable of running the channels, holding the ball up and bringing others into play or operating between the width of the posts and getting on the end of cross balls, he shows up well when compared to his peers for shooting accuracy, goals and assists in Denmark’s Super Liga too.

He still has a few years to run on his contract but it would be worth asking the question, he certainly has the pedigree and the quality in the unfortunate event that we have to say goodbye to one of the most popular league winners in our history.
