Rangers have been long-term admirers of Peterborough United’s Siriki Dembele, the 25-year old forward unlikely to be dropped from a list of names purely because Steven Gerrard has moved on.

Eligible to play for Scotland, Dembele would be a more useful member of the squad than Brandon Barker and given his availability on a pre-contract deal in January, he’s a player that should be targeted.

Peterborough have been vocal before about not selling their most valuable assets on the cheap with Football Insider claiming that it would take £4million to sign him in January. Ultimately it’s up to them what they want to value their player at, however, for a player who is just a few months short of being out of contract.

There were murmurs of discontent in the summer because we never spent any money, but this misses the point, a good player is a good player  regardless of the fee. Fashion Sakala, John Lundstram and Juninho Bacuna are all highly valuable players who we happened to secure on the cheap, if anything, it is the sort of recruitment that should be applauded.

It’s also the sort of business that if a player does well, we will stand to make a bigger profit further down the line – if we want to be self sustaining, it’s a model that we need to follow.

Above all, Dembele is a good player and would add goals and assists to the squad, the more players that can do that the better.
