Rangers signing reveals the key reason he arrived at Ibrox in January

|

New Rangers signing Matt Polster has joined the club because of the high expectation placed on performers and the opportunity to play with former MLS opponent Steven Gerrard.

The right-back played against the former LA Galaxy star when turning out for Chicago Fire across the Atlantic, but is now eager to take instruction and learn from the legendary midfielder.

He is yet to make his debut for the Gers but is expected to provide quality cover for James Tavernier over the coming months and he’s opened up on what attracted him to Ibrox.

As quoted by The Daily Record, Polster said:

When I got the interest from Rangers, I was like: ‘Holy s***. Wow, this is a big opportunity for me.’ It was something I wanted to do, to challenge myself. I want to play at a high standard where there’s real expectation. That’s what this club is all about.

And having Gerrard as manager was just an extra add.

I had always admired him. He was someone you looked up to and strived to be like when you were young. Now things have changed. I’m a player and he’s my manager – so my goal is to work hard for him and fight to win a spot with this club.

I’m excited to work with him and the rest of the staff here.

The 25-year-old made 82 appearances for Chicago Fire before making his switch to Scotland and he’ll be hoping to follow in the footsteps of successful Americans who have come through Ibrox over the last couple of decades.

From Claudio Reyna to Maurice Edu, we’ve definitely had our fair share of decent performers from ‘across the pond’ and hopefully Polster can add to that relationship with strong performances over the coming months.
