Rangers are, according to The Scottish Sun, leading the chase to sign Fashion Sakala of Oostende and beat off interest from both England and the continent.

The Zambian international has stated that he wants to play Champions League football and, with Steven Gerrard’s side in pole position to win the Scottish Premiership, Glasgow is increasingly likely to be his new destination.

Sakala – rated at over £1million – himself confirmed that there is significant interest in him but that he hasn’t made a decision yet, as reported by The Daily Mail:

“Yes, there is interest from other teams. At the same time, talks are ongoing with Oostende about a new contract and we will see where we end up.”

Oostende confirmed that they are trying to persuade Sakala to sign an extension to his agreement and responded to the rumoured interest from Rangers but apparently there hasn’t been any “official” contact:

‘We have been keen to try and get Fashion to sign a new contract since we took over at the club.

‘We know there is a lot of interest in Fashion but we have had no approach from Rangers to the club with regards to a pre-contract.”

Most speculation since Ross Wilson arrived at the club has usually been rubbished pretty quickly so the fact that this one refuses to go away could have some truth in it, with Jermain Defoe not expected to be around next season and Alfredo Morelos potentially moving on, a player of Sakala’s potential – on a free – makes perfect sense.
