After an eventful day in Scottish football filled with statements and posturing there was a small detail that was missed by the mainstream media.

The Scottish Premiership had been expected to be called in the same way that the lower leagues have done, the SPFL already has a mandate after the first – now infamous – resolution vote gave them the right to do this.

However, the league’s Chairman, Murdoch MacLennan, revealed in his lengthy “victory” speech that plans are now being made for football to return before the end of July.

This statement sticks out because, as yet, the Scottish Government is far from convinced that football behind closed doors will return any time soon but there is another twist in the tail.

Who topped scored for Rangers in Dick Advocaat's first season in charge?

Celtic have remained strangely quiet during the last few weeks when Scottish football threatened to tear itself apart but let slip in their own self congratulatory statement where they see the priorities over the next few weeks.

There is no mention of players returning to training or completing the 2019/20 season, instead, they feel that the most important thing for all parties concerned is to start planning for the 2020/21 campaign.

There is of course a small issue with this, 2019/20 isn’t finished, nothing has been decided, and much of the speculation as to why it hasn’t been cancelled already is because of the sizeable refund that would be due to the TV companies – something Neil Doncaster failed to mention prior to the first vote to finish the season, but that’s another story.

It could be a simple mistake, a typo, or Celtic knows something that the rest of Scottish football doesn’t, they would have had no reason to posture or complain if they knew they were getting their own after all.
