It’s being reported that Steven Gerrard has been in contact with former club Liverpool over youngsters Ovie Ejaria and Dominic Solanke.
Beginning with the news about 20-year-old Ejaria, he has so far made eight appearances for Jurgen Klopp but spent the second half of the 2017/18 campaign out on loan with Championship side Sunderland for experience. The spell wasn’t great as they were relegated to League 1 but the youngster did make nine starting appearances, with a further two showings from the bench and he scored his maiden EFL goal in their surprising victory over league champions Wolverhampton Wanderers in early May.
Sky Sports report the speculation that with Liverpool open to another loan for him, Gerrard has been quick to move for the player that he knows well from his time in their youth Academy.
Ejaria was also part of England’s Under 20 squad that lifted the World Cup in South Korea last year.
It’s a ‘Sky Sports understands’ piece with nothing concrete, but it doesn’t take a genius to know Gerrard might go back for a gem or two as he adds options to his squad for the campaign ahead.
Swift loan deals with our early Europa League start certainly make sense.
As for the Solanke news, the Scottish Sun are of those carrying that piece of speculation and it leans on the 20-year-olds comments describing the former midfielder as a ‘legend’ and his ‘intrigue’ at what he will do at Rangers.
With 27 appearances to his name last season in both the Premier League, the Champions League and domestic cups, Solanke scored once in those games but continues to be highly rated by the club and it’s again believed they feel a loan spell would be the best way to bring him on.
I can’t say I know much about either player in reality other than what the stats say, but this is where we have to trust Gerrard’s judgement as he will know their qualities and capabilities far better than most of us.
